Reelz Report Online-Weekend of August 14-15, 2010

Maybe because Inception was in its third week of release, or maybe because people were just in the mood for Will Ferrell, but last weekend the cop comedy, The Other Guys, took the #1 spot at box office.   This weekend, a number of new films have arrived including Julia Roberts’ new drama and Michael Cera’s new lovesick comedy.    But for us here at “Racing Rocks”, the film that has our attention is the new action film called The Expendables.

The Expendables is the brainchild of Sylvester Stallone who not only stars in the movie, but co-wrote it and directed it.   It’s not the first time that Stallone has had a role in his films other than as an actor… he had a hand in writing roughly 20 films including the first Rocky, and this is the 8th major film he’s directed… most of those being in the Rocky series.

In The Expendables, the story revolves around a group of mercenary soldiers who head off to a ficticious South American country to overthrow the evil dictator.    Of course, things aren’t what they seem to be and the film is filled with action from start to finish.   But the most interesting thing about The Expendables is that it puts about a whole slew of big-time action heroes all together in one cast.    Guys like Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren are all in there…even Arnold Schwarzenegger makes an appearance.

That action pic is open now, everywhere.
