As we’ve mentioned before, winter is awards season… there was a star-studded Grammy night last Sunday and now the Oscar nominations are out… we’ll do some in-depth analysis of those nominations closer to that March 7th awards show. Meanwhile, this weekend, a familiar face returns to Cineplexes, although with his shaved head and facial hair, he’s not as familiar looking as usual. We’re talking about John Travolta who’s now starring in a new action flick called From Paris With Love.
Across his career, John Travolta has certainly had some professional ups and downs… there was even a stretch in the late 80s and early 90s when the only thing he could brag about was the success of the “Look Who’s Talking” movies… but that all changed with the arrival of Pulp Fiction in 1994. Since then, John Travolta has remained a generally bankable star in Hollywood with a range of films that include successful comedies like Wild Hogs along with thrillers like Face/Off and the recent Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3.
One theme that
does recur in John Travolta’s career is that he seems to often play someone who is “cool.”
From his silly start in “Welcome Back Kotter” to his role in Grease to his parts in Pulp Fiction and Get Shorty right up to his brand new spy thriller, Travolta plays the cool dude. If you’re an action fan and a Travolta fan, you’ll probably want to check him out in From Paris With Love.
